On Wednesday through Friday, January 29th through January 31st, Ponton and Virtus will begin to repair the City of Salina’s brick medians along the S. 9th Street corridor. This project also includes related curb & gutter repairs. The schedule is as follows, weather permitting:
S. 9th Street and Broadway Intersection to Otto Ave., January 29-31
The work will be completed with minimal lane closures on each side of the median/s where the work is occurring. Motorists should expect minor delays, although through traffic is encouraged to utilize alternate routes during construction. Weather permitting, the work is expected to last a week for each installment. Motorists are urged to proceed with caution for the safety of the crews performing the work.
This type of maintenance has been used to help extend the life of many roads throughout the City of Salina and an accepted practice of repair around the State of Kansas. It consists of removing settled, heaved, or damaged bricks and reestablishing the base to then reposition bricks. Brick pattern and spacing shall generally match pattern and spacing of adjacent bricks and pavement. Salvaged bricks shall be used for the repairs as much as possible. Also limited curb and gutter removal and replacement will occur concurrently in each location as needed along the S. 9th Street medians.
The scheduled work described above is the first installment of the City of Salina’s 2024 Brick Street Repair maintenance project. The full project cost of all installments totals $52,000.
