On Monday, October 5, Vance Brothers of Kansas City, Missouri, will continue work on the City of Salina’s 2026 Microsurfacing Project along East Ash Street between Third Street and Ohio Street.
Work is scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. During construction, Ash Street will be closed to eastbound traffic between Third Street and Ohio Street. Ash Street will remain open to westbound traffic only, traveling from Ohio Street toward Third Street.
Eastbound motorists should follow the signed detour route: Fifth Street south to Iron Avenue, then east on Iron Avenue to Ohio Street.
Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible, slow down in the work zone, and follow all traffic-control devices. Please watch for construction crews and equipment.
Microsurfacing is a common method of pavement surface treatment which consists of a polymer modified asphalt slurry (about 3/8 inch thick) that coats the pavement surface and creates a smooth moisture-resistant barrier. It also increases ride-ability and seals smaller cracks. When combined with proper pavement sealing, micro-surfacing extends the service life of the roadway. Streets are estimated for microsurfacing on a 6 to 8 year cycle.
The $950,000 project is a major component of the City of Salina's $5.9 million 2026 maintenance capital improvement program.
