The 1 mile water main repair now being considered with Diel Construction is a good start; however, we are looking at a 1 year completion time. What are we doing to free up funds from "less important" projects that will allow up to put out for bid larger water main projects with other contractors that could be completed during the same time frame?

The City Commission has directed staff to develop a more aggressive water main replacement program. The proposed work is an important initial step, but it is not intended to be the City’s only water main investment.

Staff is evaluating options to increase the scale and pace of future replacements, including use of utility revenues, potential General Fund support, debt financing, and adjustments to capital project priorities.

How many hydrant flushers are there in Salina?

Automatic flushing stations for fire hydrants are advanced systems that periodically flush water distribution lines without manual intervention. These automated flushing stations use timers to open and close hydrant valves at predetermined intervals, to ensure compliance with water quality standards, consistent water circulation and reducing the buildup of sediment and bacteria in the water distribution system.

There is a total of twenty-two automatic flushing stations in service in the water distribution system.
