Starting April 28, 2025, the City of Salina’s Community Relations Division will begin to accept applications for the Neighborhood Repair & Rehabilitation Program (NRRP) with the funding of $300,000 awarded through the Kansas Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). The Division’s goal for the grant is to assist low-to-moderate income individuals with the rehabilitation of about 10 - 12 homes in the target area. Applications will be reviewed for eligibility on a first-come, first-ready basis. This grant will provide a portion of the funding for the City’s Neighborhood Repair and Rehabilitation Program (NRRP), which started in early 2024.
The funding provided by CDBG allows NRRP to expand the pool of applicants. Rental properties may apply for rehabilitation through CDBG funding, whereas the previous funding only allowed for owner-occupied homes.
The NRRP focuses on a 10-block area bounded by State Street to the north, Ninth Street to the east, South Street to the south, and Broadway to the west. The program strives to make improvements to the structural integrity of homes within this area.
Applications for CDBG through NRRP are now open. Applicants who previously applied for Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) grant must submit a new application to be considered for these new CDBG funds. Applications are encouraged to be submitted electronically at: https://www.salina-ks.gov/homerehabgrants. For a paper application, visit the Community Relations Division in the City-County Building: 300 W. Ash, Room 101.
