2014 Microsurfacing Road Work

Beginning on Monday, June 9, 2014, City contractors will begin applying microsurfacing on Discovery Center Parking Lot, State Street, College Avenue, Bishop Street, Eighth Street, Santa Fe Avenue, Scanlan Avenue and Broadway Boulevard.

The schedule for June 9 – June 13, weather permitting, is as follows:

June 9 Discovery Center (Parking Lot)
State Street (between Broadway Boulevard and College  Avenue)
College Avenue (between South Street and Bishop Street)

June 10 Bishop Street (between College Avenue and Ninth Street)
Eighth Street (between Ash Street and Prescott Avenue)

June 11 State Street (between Cherry Street and Broadway  Boulevard)
Santa Fe Avenue (between Claflin Avenue and Republic  Avenue)
Santa Fe Avenue (between Elm Street and Railroad  Tracks)
Scanlan Avenue (between Centennial Road and General  Jim Road)

June 12 Santa Fe Avenue (between Railroad Tracks and Pacific  Avenue)
 Discovery Center (Parking Lot)

June 13 Broadway Boulevard (between Chicago Street and Ninth  Street)
The work will include applying the asphalt surface treatment and placing temporary pavement markings.

The contractor will begin setting traffic control at 7 am. Temporary traffic control and flaggers will be present to direct vehicles through the work zones and maintain traffic flow; traffic will be reduced to single lanes in both directions during paving. Residences and businesses will be notified if access to driveways will be restricted while work is performed. On-street parking in work zones will be prohibited. Any vehicles, or equipment, left on the street on the day paving is scheduled may be towed at the owners expense.

Microsurfacing is a method of pavement surface treatment which prolongs the serviceability of streets by creating a moisture-resistant barrier while increasing the rideability. This process has been successfully used in Salina for many years. Combined with joint and crack sealing, this surface treatment program extends the service life of pavement.
