City of Salina Proclamation
and Presentation to Honor Women’s History Month

The City of Salina Human Relations Commission and the Community Relations Department will recognize and honor Women’s History Month with a proclamation signing and a presentation both centered on the theme “Weaving the stories of Women’s Lives.”
Developed by the National Women’s History Project (NWHP), this year’s theme honors the role women have in creating social change, increasing equality for all and building communities in countless ways. “Hearing and telling stories of women from our past and present reminds us of why we are who we are today,” said Gina McDonald, Director of Community Relations for the City of Salina. “As women with dreams, careers, hobbies and passions, we stand on the shoulders of our mentors, heroes and friends. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to mentor others to create a more challenging and creative future by offering our history, talents and knowledge to others.”

At the Salina City Commission meeting on March 2, a proclamation honoring Women’s History Month will be read, approved by the commission and then signed by the Mayor. This will take place at 4 p.m. in room 107 of the city-county building, 300 W. Ash St.

There will be an interactive event starting at 5:30 p.m. on March 13 at the Salina Art Center, 242 S. Santa Fe Ave. Salina native Lisa Bedinger will be the guest speaker. Bedinger is a coordinator for the South Burlington Community Justice Center in Vermont.

The Wall of Women’s Achievement, a 24-foot long photo montage will be present at the event. The montage features over 350 women who made significant contributions in government, science, religion, art, social activism, sports, journalism, business, literature, space exploration and military service.

The public is encouraged to participate in the free event. Due to limited space, reservations must be made by February 24. Donations will be accepted the night of the event to offset the cost of light refreshments.
