Cross Connection Control Program
The purpose of the City of Salina's cross connection control program, administered by the Utilities Department, is to protect the public water supply through the following efforts:
- preventing contamination due to backflow from cross connections*
- prohibiting and eliminating all cross connections between private and public water supplies
- conducting regularly scheduled inspections to detect and eliminate certain cross connections
*A cross connection is any physical connection or arrangement between two otherwise separate piping systems, one of which contains potable water and the other which contains water or any substance of unknown or questionable quality, whereby there may be flow from one system to the other.
For more information, see 41-70. through 41-70.9. of the Salina Code.
