Building Services Division
To encourage and promote safe, quality development and construction in the City of Salina.
Building Services is a division of the Development Services Department and along with the Planning Division is regularly involved in the Development Review Team process. Building Services is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the adopted building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, property maintenance, and other related adopted codes. The Division issues permits for buildings, plumbing, electrical and mechanical work, demolition, mobile homes, changes of occupancy, signs, home occupation certificates and swimming pools. The Division reviews plans for proposed buildings, additions and building alterations to verify zoning compliance, building and fire code compliance and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Staff also inspects construction projects, including private water and sewer services, as well as plumbing, mechanical and electrical limited service and repair work to confirm code compliance. The staff is also responsible for enforcing the city’s property maintenance code as it relates to the condition of the buildings on a property, including identifying and abating dilapidated or dangerous buildings.
The technical staff, directed by Sean Pilcher, Building Official, email@example.com consists of two permit technicians who support them. The Department offers many informational handouts to assist and guide our customers. Most of these handouts are available on our website.
The Building Services Division works closely with the Planning, Engineering, Utilities, and Fire Departments and other public agencies in the area of public safety and is the lead agency in coordinating the plan review activities of all of the departments involved in the building permit process. The activities of the Development Services Department are under the supervision of Lauren Driscoll, firstname.lastname@example.org, Director of Community and Development Services.
Development Services Newsletter
The Community and Development Services staff publishes the "Development Services Newsletter" three times a year, in April August and December. This newsletter an effective tool for city staff to use to communicate information to developers, design professionals and building contractors regarding policy or code changes, explanations about specific code requirements, construction standards, contractor licensing and other development related items.
This newsletter is distributed via email only.
