SALINA AIRPORT AUTHORITY The Salina Airport Authority adopts and amends rules and regulations as may be necessary for the orderly operation of the Salina Municipal Airport and the Airport Industrial Center. The Salina Airport Authority was created by the City of Salina in April 1965 under the authority granted to the city by the Surplus Property and Public Airport Authority Act of the State of Kansas. The Authority was created for the purpose of accepting as surplus property, portions of the former Schilling Air Force Base which was closed in 1965. The Authority received over 3,500 acres of land and numerous buildings for the purpose of operating and developling the Salina Municipal Airport and the Salina Airport Industrial Center. The Authority is guided and overseen by a five member Board of Directors appointed by the City Commission. The Board appoints the Executive Director, who is the chief executive and administrative officer of the Authority. The Executive Director hirs the remaining employees of the Authority. The Salina Industrial Center is home for eighty businesses and organizations. Forty-five of the businesses and organizations are tenants of the Authority. One of the primary functions of the Authority is to facilitate the continued growth of jobs and payroll at the Airport Industrial Center. The Authority works in partnership with the City of Salina, Saline County and the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce for the retention of existing business and industry and the recruitment of new business and industry. The Salina Municipal Airport is the only commercial service airport serving Salina/Saline County and the 22-county area which compromises North Central Kansas and also serves as a key business aviation and pilot training facility. The Salina Airport Authority meets the third Wednesday of each month at 8:00 a.m. and the M.J. Kennedy Air Terminal Conference Room located at 3237 Arnold Avenue.
