SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

The Solid Waste Management Committee purpose is to provide recommendations to the City Commission and staff on various solid waste management issues.  The Committee is to recommend a five-ten year Solid Waste Management plan as required by K.S.A. 65-3405.  The Solid Waste Management Plan will guide and support the implementation of many solid waste management programs at the local and county level.  This Committee is also responsible for reviewing the plan annually and conducting public hearings at least ever five years.

This committee has thirteen members, each serving a three-year term.  Five members must reside within the city limits, one member must reside in the unincorporated area of Saline County, one member must reside of any of the cities of the third class (Assaria, Brookville, Gypsum, New Cambria, and Smolan), and six members of Saline County at-large.  The Solid Waste Management Committee meets three to four times a year (typically in January, August and December) at 4:00 p.m. in Room 201  of the Bicentennial Center located at 800 The Midway.
