2007 CITY AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS

Distinguished Public Service Award
Local citizens Jeff and Paula Knox received the Distinguished Public Service Award from the Kansas Recreation and Parks Association for work in raising funds for the Salina Soccer Complex.

Kansas Human Relations Association Recognition
This recognition was received from the Kansas Human Relations Association Recognition for initiating and sustaining a "Second Review Process" pertaining to the City of Salina's hiring and personnel practices.  This was also featured in the Kansas Government Journal. 

Tree City USA
For the 18th year in a row, the City of Salina was named Tree City USA in 2007.  We are proud to be part of this prestigious national award.  Trees in our City help clean the air, conserve soil and water, moderate temperature and bring nature into our daily lives.  They are such a vital component of the infrastructure in our City and provide environmental and economical benefits.  We recognize these benefits and provide needed car for our trees.  This award is sponsored in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.

Kansas Human Relations Association Recognition
This recognition given by the Kansas Human Relations Association was received to recognize a City for support that is progressive and shows that the City supports Human Relations in their community such as equal opportunity, fair housing, and positive community relations.

Snow Roadeo Overall Award
The Kansas Chapter of the American Public Works holds an event that challenges the skills of the equipment operators.  The City of Salina earned the Snow Roadeo Overall Award along with several employees earning recognition in various divisions of the competition.

Team of the Year Award / Silver Level Award of Excellence and Outstanding Citizenship Award
The City of Salina's United Way team received the Team of the Year Award for an outstanding job of team work.  The City of Salina employees also received the Silver Level Award of Excellence through their generosity and contributions.

Public Works Project of the Year
The American Public Works Association (APWA) awarded the City of Salina the Public Works Project of the Year for the Transportation Over $10 category for the North Ohio Overpass Project.

National Tournament of the Year Award
The City of Salina's Parks and Recreation Athletic Supervisor and the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce's Sports Coordinator were both recognized for their efforts with a National Tournament of the Year Award during the ASA State Conference.
