Application deadline: Applications accepted for hiring pool-Fire Department- Duties: Fire suppression & prevention; provides advanced life support services & renders emergency medical treatment. Education: High school graduate or G.E.D. Certification requirements: Must be a National Registry or Kansas certified Paramedic; must be Firefighter I & Firefighter II certified upon completion of probation period. POLICE OFFICER

Application deadline: Until filled–Police Department-Duties: Protecting, serving, & working with Salina’s diverse citizenry & enforcing the law while protecting the constitutional rights of all. Education: High school graduate or G.E.D. Qualifications include: United States citizen; twenty-one (21) years of age at time of appointment; no felony convictions, domestic violence related conviction, or other serious misdemeanor convictions; good physical condition; eyesight: 20/100 correctable to 20/20, no upper acuity limit with contact lenses; ability to obtain Kansas Police Officer certification within one (1) year of appointment. Selection process includes: Written test, two (2) assessment interviews, psychological evaluation, computer voice stress analyzer examination, thorough background check, physical examination, & drug screen.  Requirements: Must live within 40 minutes response time; must possess valid Kansas driver’s license. Successful candidates are prohibited from smoking or using tobacco products at any time on or off the job. Written test is held the 3rd Saturday of each month. Pay: $37,918-60,549/yr.

Utility Tech II-Design/Construction Observation

Application deadline: Until filled -Utilities- Duties: Performs technical engineering designs & construction observations; designs, surveys & observes construction for the installation of sanitary sewer, water mains, & other public utility projects; performs fire line inspections; prepares conceptual designs & project estimates; reviews & prepares hydraulic water modeling analysis; develops technical construction plans & specifications for installation of sanitary sewer, water mains & other utility improvements. Education: Associate’s degree in Mechanical, Environmental, or Civil Engineering Technology or related field. Experience:  Two (2) years technical civil engineering work and/or drafting; works with CADD, GIS & other technical software systems. Requirements: Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. Pay: $15.08-16.89/hr.

UTILITY WORKER II (WATER)

Application deadline: Until filled -Utilities/Water Distribution - Duties: Leads Utility Worker I’s engaged in a wide variety of work involving the operation & maintenance of a water distribution system.  Education: High school graduate or G.E.D.   Experience: Four (4) years of progressive experience in the maintenance of water distribution systems or related work. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess or obtain Kansas Class II Water System Supply Operator Certificate within one (1) year after Kansas Dept. of Health & Environment (KDHE) examination eligibility to obtain certification; & must possess of, or obtain, a valid Kansas Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brakes & tanker endorsement within three (3) months of appointment.  Starting pay: $15.08/hr.

ENGINEERING AIDE (TEMPORARY SEASONAL)

Application deadline: Until filled–Public Works/Engineering–Duties: Assists with GIS & engineering projects; performs office & field work related to design, data collection, correction & entry into the City’s Pavement Management System; assists Engineering & GIS staff with system maintenance & data updates. Education: Minimum of sophomore standing in college in an engineering related field. Experience: GIS, civil engineering, or other technical field would be helpful but not required. Qualifications: Strong computer skills, ESRI software specifically ArcView; GPS operation & tablet computer.  Pay: $8.50-10.50/hr.
