The mission of the Traffic Control work group is to install and maintain various traffic control devices including signage, street markings, and traffic signals to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists.
To accomplish these objectives, Traffic Control has 4 authorized full-time employees and 2 seasonal employees. The 4 full-time employees require International Municipal Service Association (IMSA) certification in work zone safety.
General Information
The City of Salina has 63 intersections, 20 school zones, and 13 mid-block crossings that are electronically controlled. Traffic Control also maintains 346 decorative downtown lights, 38 high-bay lights, 80 decorative overpass lights, and 24 overpass street lights. There are 8,306 street name signs throughout the City of Salina.
Location and Hours of Operation
Traffic Control is located in the Public Works facility at 412 East Ash Street. The hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Guidelines
The Public Works Department installs and maintains all traffic control devices in accordance with the federally approved Manual for Uniformed Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
