Phone 785-309-5750
The Traffic Control work group is part of the Public Works Department. The work group is responsible for installation and maintenance of a multitude of traffic control devices including signage, traffic control painting on the streets, and traffic control signals.
These devices are essential for maximum utilization of traffic ways for the safety of both pedestrians and motorists. There are presently 64 electronically controlled intersections, 20 electronically controlled school zones, and 13 mid-block electronically controlled crossings within our City limits. The work group maintains 365 downtown decorative lights and 38 high-bay lights. There are over 7,500 street signs in the City and nearly 80 miles of streets, which require centerline markings.
