While primary responsibility for the investigation of most crimes rest with the patrol officer in which whose beat the crime occurred, officers seldom have the time to become involved in complex and/or lengthy investigations. In these cases, assistance and follow-up are provided by CIB personnel, who also have primary responsibility for the investigation of major crimes, such as homicide and rape. CIB is also responsible for the investigation of vice and organized crime as well as criminal intelligence collection and dissemination.
The Crime Analyst is responsible for collecting, organizing, analyzing and interpreting crime statistical data in order to identify crime trends. The information the crime analyst provides assists the police command staff in developing effective proactive measures to combat crime in the city.
