The
Salina Fire Department provides fire protection, emergency medical
services, rescue and hazardous materials services to the citizens of
Salina. Rescue and emergency medical services are extended into Saline
County by governmental agreement.
Protecting
the community is accomplished through rapid deployment of emergency
resources, code enforcement, and public education for both fire and
medical emergencies.
The department has five divisions, those being: Administration, Fire Prevention, EMS, Training and Safety and Fire Operations.
The
fire department is comprised of ninety five employees. Eighty four of
the ninety five employees are spread across three shifts that work 24
hours at a time. Shift change is at 0800 each morning. The remaining
eleven positions provide administrative, support, and fire prevention
services.
The fire department operates from four strategically located and staffed fire stations.
Station Locations:
Fire Station 1 – 222 W. Elm Street
Fire Station 2 – 1110 S. Santa Fe Ave.
Fire Station 3 – 2633 Belmont Blvd.
Fire Station 4 – 669 Briarcliff Rd.
Each
year the fire department responds to more than 1,500 fire related
emergencies and 3,500 EMS or medical related emergencies. In a 24 hour
period the department responds to an average of 14 emergency calls a
day.
The fire department ambulance service transported more than 120 citizens to hospitals outside the community for advanced medical care. Emergency transfers can occur at a moments notice.
The
fire department provides specialized services for hazardous material
responses, technical rescue, vehicle extrication, swift water rescue,
trench rescue, building collapse, and disaster management.
