Salina Municipal Golf Course  

“I can’t believe that this is a municipal golf course,” is a comment heard frequently around the pro shop at the Salina Municipal Golf Course. The first 24-hole golf facility in the state of Kansas features an 18-hole regulation golf course and a brand new, 6-hole short course. A spacious driving range, putting green, and state of the art short game area enhance the courses. With green fees consistently ranking among the lowest in the state, and turf manicured to country club quality, golfers can expect a very enjoyable day.

“The Muni,” as it is called by many, is located in Salina, Kansas – a city uniquely situated at the junction of I-135 and I-70. It features 6500 yards of rolling blue grass fairways in as fine of condition as any in the region. The large bent grass greens are normally quick and smooth and can be very deceiving with a prevailing southerly breeze. Four tee boxes on each hole give players of any ability a chance to test their skills.

The new 6-hole short course is home to The First Tee of Salina. The First Tee is a national organization interested in combining golf with life skill education for all children, regardless of their socio-economic background. The First Tee of Salina is one of the first 50 such facilities open in the United States. Many programs for youth are offered throughout the year.

The 6-hole course is not limited to junior play only, though. Adults, couples, families and, of course, children are welcome to hone their golfing skills on the new links. The short course offers a unique option if a player doesn’t have time for an 18-hole round. Holes range from 100 to 192 yards and feature both natural turf and artificial turf teeing grounds. The short course does not take tee times and is open for public play when youth programming is not taking place.

“The Muni” is home to many group outings, leagues, tournaments and other special events. A multipurpose room is available for meetings and functions after play. Tee times are taken seven days a week on the 18-hole course. Playing time typically averages around 4 hours and ten minutes for 18-hole play during the season.
